I am Going to travel to UK from Germany in a rental car, is there any border check points? and what papers do i need? apart from passport.
Yes, there will be immigration and customs entry points.
If you return the car to Germany there should be no problem. Ask your rental agent about what you will need if you plan to drop it in London.
You will definitely need your rental agreement for proof of control or ownership of the auto.
In 1979 I bought a car in Paris, drove it to
to Boulogne. Then took the Ferry for Folkestone, England. We made our ferry reservation in Paris several days in advance.
They told me that the ferry sometimes fills early. I suggest you reserve your ferry crossing as soon as you can in Germany or France.
England is very strict about auto imports.
At that time they did not permit bringing a car into the country without warning that you must take it out. One cannot leave it there or sell it.
In your case, I can assume that showing your rental agreement will be sufficient.
The Channel Crossing Was Very Uneventful. As We Left the Dock Area in Folkestone, we Laughed at the
Numerous Billboards Reminding Drivers to Keep Left.
My passengers Would Shout, "Keep Left!" all the way as I drove the carriageway to London.
The UK is outside of the Schengen Zone. There will be customes control at your port of entry to the Schengen Zone which in your case will most likely either be in France or Belgium. Usually the border controls are before boarding the ferry boat or Chunnel train. If you're a UK/EU citizen you won't need a passport, you're ID card will do just fine. If you're non UK/EU you'll need a passport and your car rental agreement. Also make sure you're allowed to take your rental car to the UK (which in most cases you are).
