Has anyone been in Germany/Switzerland/Austria in September? We are taking Rick Steves fur beginning 7 September 2013. Curious what the weather might be like when we are in Murren, which should be about 11/12 Sept. Thanks.
Weather in the Alps is always tricky, but statistically September is one of the drier months of the year. Temperature at Murren's altitude should be between 60-70 during the day.
Thx Michael. this helps. I know that amongst mountainous regions weather is "determined" by the mountain. Just, that i have seen varied weather stats for September and figure that people who have been there are most reputable. Safe travels.
September is the absolute best month for hiking. Least amount of rain (on average), and no chance of the rare heat waves that can set in during August. Even the views are usually better- the air is drier, so you don't get the haze that blurs things slightly in the summer. Evenings are usually mild, but bring a jacket.
We were on the RS GAS trip several years ago a week later than you will be there. We had absolutely beautiful weather when we were in Murren. However, we heard that when the group a week earlier was there, it rained the whole time. You just never know. Hopefully it will be beautiful and dry when you are there. You will enjoy it either way.
