We would like to visit Europe next summer. We are in the early stages of planning. Our last trip to Europe was a success (29 nights) This time we want to see countries/cities which we havent visited before. The only city we want to do again is Paris. I need help figuring out which cities in each country. Need suggestions on itineraries. Which cities to visit? I want a balance of small towns and big cities. 1. London 2. Paris 3. Netherlands 4. Switerland
5. Germany 6. Belgium Thanks
We are only going to stay 2 nights in Paris since we were there for much longer on our previous trip. 3 Nights in London.
That leaves you 12 nights for 4 countries, with a desire to do multiple destinations in each country? Once you factor in transit time, it's not doable. I'd do Germany+ one of the others (since they all border Germany). As in Netherlands + Northern Germany, Belgium + Western Germany, or Switzerland + Southern Germany with that timeframe.
I think 17 nights for 6 countries is a little (ok, a LOT) much, honestly. Do you know how many nights you want to spend in Paris? I would focus on a geographical area so you don't spend too much time in transit. Maybe London, Paris, a couple stops in the Netherlands, northern Germany, and Belgium then fly out of Frankfurt. Or London, Paris, Southern Germany and Switzerland. You get the idea.
Cut down on the time in London. 3 nights is a lot of time in that expensive city.
Rick Steve's doesn't cover Belgium to much; but if you plan to visit Belgium try a day trip and one evening in Spa, Belgium. If someone in your party is interested in WWII related things you'll find many throughout Belgium. Would recommend you get a car with GPS though. You didn't state if you would be driving or going by rail. You shouldn't miss Switzerland.
Disagree with Tim and I haven't even been to London. Less that 3 nights seems criminal, though. London is huge and there's a lot to see. Rather than having shorter stays in great cities you should cut out destinations entire to enjoy the places you do go to. 2 nights in London, Tim? Really? Yes, it's expensive. SO IS FLYING TO EUROPE.
