By chance we were in Munich during a 2 day celebration June 2012-does anyone know what this was, we would like to return in 2014 for the same celebration?

We were staying at Hotel Uhland and they never mentioned that anything special was going on. What a surprise we walked down to Marienplatz to find bands playing, peopled dressed in German costume, food and beer tents. Vendors selling homemade item, even a childrens area where they took part in making crafts from the past, also free city tours, the whole area was in party mode for the weekend.
I think it was maybe a Birthday of some kind, I just wanted to find out if it on a certain weekend each year. What a way to experince Munich for the first time, we had a ball!!!

Sorry--I haven't got a clue and I've been to Munich a dozen times or more. Try going to the Munich Tourist offfice site. Google it to find the exact address.
