I will be traveling with my sister this fall to Munich and Bavaria in September for about 9 days. We're having difficulty determining what might be the best accommodations for us - we'd like separate rooms, separate beds at the minimum, but don't want to break the bank. Shared bath is fine. Any suggestions?

If you don't want to "break the bank", I (we) can highly recommend the Pension Schwalbennestl in Mittenwald. We stayed here in April 2005 and Oct. 2006. Very nice place run by an extrememly nice woman (Frau Bader). Very good buffet breakfast, very short walk to the pedestrian zone and absolutely fantastic views from the room balconies! For the $$, I don't think it can be beat, even for 2 seperate single rooms. Though the website is in German, you can correspond in English. A single room costs from 22.50 to 27 Euro. From my experience in the region, most of the inns in Rick's books have Double rooms with two twins that slide apart with two separate duvets. Just ask the accomomdation if the Double has two twins/singles.
