Does RS know about this place: http://www.youtube.com/embed/ACkmg3Y64_s
If he does, it won't make the Germany book unless he adds Hamburg. I've been there and it is pretty amazing, particularly the Swiss section. There's a similar layout in Rotterdam, but I forget the name.
Tom, are you thinking or Maduradam? Larry, saw this on tv, looks great.
No, here's the one I referred to: http://www.railzminiworld.com/ENGindex.htm Not quite as impressive as Miniatur Wunderland, but not nearly as crowded either.
Hamburg was added to Germany 2012, and the Speicherstadt section includes a description of Minatur Wunderland.
Wow, how about that, Hamburg is now part of the ETBD Canon. Just out of curiosity, what else did they add that wasn't there before?
From this very website the new edition includes: "The South: Munich, Bavaria, Tirol, Nürnberg, Salzburg (Aust) and Berchtesgaden The East: Dresden, Görlitz, Berlin, Leipzig, Erfurt and Wittenburg The West: Baden-Baden, Black Forest, Rothenburg, Romantic Road, Würzburg, Frankfurt, Rhine and Mosel Valleys, Trier and Köln The North: Hamburg and Nürnberg " There was a show about Miniatur Wunderland and the two guys who founded it on the BBC a few months ago. It looks so amazing I'm headed to Hamburg in September to check it out.
There used to be a miniature village near where I grew up and we loved going there but never did I see a van rocking, or a red light district! Looks like a lot of fun!
Now that I've seen the video.... Looks like they've finished the airport since I visited. I guess I'll just have to make a return trip! If anyone out there in Ricknik-land is considering a visit, here's my advice- get there early! I visited on a Saturday in the middle of winter. There were only a few other guests when I arrived soon after opening. But by mid morning, you could barely move, much less get a close look at the models.
Thanks for posting, Larry. I love the minis. Madurodam is renovating after 60 years, reopening in April (which I'd never have known if Larry and friends hadn't tweaked my brain), so it's now on my list for my upcoming visit to Amsterdam. Love Madurodam! When I was in Paris a year or so ago, I went to France Miniature. It's a bit of a schlep outside of Paris, but I was completely charmed. All outdoors (like Madurodam) and beautiful landscaping - plus all the exhibits.
