Germany May 30 holiday rental cars?

We are arriving in Germany on May 30, which is a holiday in Germany. Every car rental place I've seen on the web says closed. We are arriving from Paris that day, and thought it would be easy to rent a car, but surprise it's not. The only option I found would be to travel to Frankfurt and get a car there. Our destination is Oberwesel along the Rhine. We were planning to arrive in Kaiserslautern and get a car to drive up to Oberwesel, but that doesn't look possible now. Any other options you can think of? I would appreciate any thoughts. -Dave

A frequent train goes right to the middle of town. Paris Gare du Nord at 08:01, Thalys (get ticket ASAP) Koeln (Cologne) 1115-1153, InterCity to Koblenz, 7 minute connection from plat 4 to plat 5North, Oberwesel in time for a late bratwurst at 1325. or Gare de l'Est at 09:10 TGV to Saarbrücken, 9 minute connection platform 5 to plat 11, Regional train to Koblenz, 15 minute connection to the 5North and arrival an hour later at 14:25. You could take a later train along the way for a slightly later arrival but lunch on the way.

Nigel,
Amazing! That second suggestion through Saarbrücken would be perfect for us. Thank you for taking the time to find out details and explain it to me. I'm unfamiliar with train travel and you were very helpful. Thank you. -Dave
