Germany Itinerary for 12 days

We are two adults and a teen son who are traveling to Germany in June of 2010. Here is our current itinerary:

Berlin - 3 nights
Rothenburg - 2 nights
Fussen - 1 Night
Salzberg - 2 Nights
Prague - 2 nights + Fly Home

We will purchase the German rail pass and travel by train. Is this itinerary too adventurous? With a teen son, we want to combine castles, museums & outdoor activities. Should we substitute one city for another? We want to make it easy to visit & fly out of Prague on day 10. Thanks!

My first impression is to ask: Have you taken travel time between cities into consideration? The destinations are not too far apart. But after you subtract all of the time associated with moving from one place to another, you might find that some parts of your itinerary are just a little rushed (depending on the number of sites you intend to see).

Rothenburg only requires one full day, but do take the bus that travels the romantic road and if time persists to Garmisch-Partenkirchen. There are many, many, Many castles in Germany and you may be castled out by the end of day three. You can purchase castle and museum passes at any local Tourist Info office and the employees are fluent in English.

Check out the Bayern/Barvarian tickets on the dbahn site which would be much cheaper than a rail pass. It applies to two or more passengers traveling together. I am not on my computer and do not have all the websites to post links for you.

Thanks for your feedback. Because of the travel distance, I'm rethinking the trek down to Fussen and considering a faster trek to Cochem/Mosel Valley from Berlin (only 4.5 hrs) for a couple days, then to Rothenburg overnight and then to Munich to connect to Salzburg. Basically we have 12 days total and with 3 Days in Berlin and 2 days in Prague, we'd like the remaining trip to encompass small towns & the countryside. What do you think?
