Germany/Italy 9 day itinerary suggestions

Hello everyone

My boyfriend and I will be taking a trip to Germany and Italy in August and are looking for suggestions of what to do with our time. We land in Frankfurt around 7pm on a Tuesday so we'll be staying there for the night. From there, we were going to explore a few smaller towns between Frankfurt and Munich on Wednesday/Thursday (looking for suggestions) while spending Friday and Saturday in Munich. We have reservations to take the overnight train from Munich to Florence on Saturday around 9pm. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks.

Rothenburg, Nuremberg, and Bamberg are your best options. To get a glimpse of all, you could head to R'burg on Wednesday (stopover in Würzburg where you change trains to see the fabulous Residenz (palace). On Thursday take the train to Bamberg for a few hours' stroll and a meal (try the Rauchbier!) and move on to N'berg for the evening. Then hit Munich on Friday morning.
