Germany in 4 Days

We are doing a tour of Europe - well of parts of it - one of our destinations is Germany. I have been to the Blackforest when I was younger - and would like to do it again b/c my husband has never been, but we're really flexible.

So, does anyone have must sees in Germany or a route/plan you'd pick for about 4 days in Germany. We are off to Switzerland afterwards, so we'd like to head South as we go. Thanks

We will be coming from Amsterdam - so we're really open to anything.

Hey Megan! Since you'll be coming from Amsterdam and going toward the Black Forest & Switzerland you'll probably only have time to catch some of the sites in the western part of Germany, specifically in the states of Rhineland-Palatinate & Baden-Wuerttemberg. Trying to get to Munich, Berlin, or Dresden would eat up practically an enitre day traveling. Besides spending only a day or two in any of those places wouldn't give you enough time to really appreciate them. Of course, which places to visit has alot to do with what interests you but here are some suggestions to consider: Cologne for its cathedral, a Rhine cruise between Koblenz & Bacharach to see the Medieval castles, Burg Eltz on the Mosel River, Darmstadt for its art nouveau architecture, Heidelberg for its castle, Karlsruhe for its palace, Baden-Baden for its spa, the Deutsche Weinstrasse for the wine, small villages & beautiful countryside along the route. In addition, there are many other choices like Trier, Mainz, Frankfurt, Worms, Speyer, & Bruchsal. I'd suggest going on-line to research a little bit about all of these to see if there are any that really interest you & your husband. Then you can determine an exact route you'd like to follow.

From Amsterdam: Ok, going towards Basel, I think I would go to Koblenz and opt for some time on the Mittelrhein. Most significantly there would be the Marksburg in Braubach, St. Goar and Rheinfels, and Bacharach. From there I would head to the Black Forest, Karlsruhe or Baden-Baden (of which I am not really excited), go up the Murg to Freudenstadt, then down the Kinzig to Halsach, then up the Gutch (on what's called the Schwarzwaldbahn) to Triberg and on to Donaueschingen, from there to Titisee and then to Freiburg and to Basel.
