Do you have any of Rick's books giving his detailed recommendations for each of these countries?

I do, but there is far too much to decide for a week and a half in Germany...I wasn't if there was something that lots of people really enjoyed?

I was wondering also if it is worth going to Berlin or if staying the the South is a better option?

Berlin offers a wealth of culture, a lively nightlife, and seems to be experiencing a new golden age. It's a major worldcity that's more affordable than many other urban destinations such as Munich. Even though Berlin comes last in Rick's book, he does give it a nice write up. IMO many Rick-o-files don't manage to fit Berlin into their itinerary because they are focusing on the Rhine, Romantic Road, and Bavarian castle; and Berlin is some distance away from these. If you have about 10 days then you have enough time to consider adding Berlin. I wanted to point out that although you say "staying in the south," so far your list of Rhine and Mosel is western Germany, not the south; only the Romantic Road is in the south. Staying in the south would be Munich and southern Bavaria--the Neuschwanstein castle area and Munich being highly recommended, many travelers here would say more so than the Romantic Road, which gets mixed reviews here as to how "Romantic" it really is although most do like Rothenburg. In 10 days one itinerary (of many possible ones) would be: Rhine & MoselRomantic Road 1 night on way to MunichMunichNeuschwanstein/Hohenschwangau Castles southwest of Munichand then hopefully fitting in Berlin somewhere in that itinerary

My husband and i just honeymooned in Bavaria. Our trip consisted of: Flying into Frankfurt, then visiting Rothenburg, Kelheim (toured the Schneider Wiesse Brewery, it was awesome), Munich, and Neuschwanstein.

We then went on to Austria and the Czech Republic. In the Czech Republic we stayed in Prague and went on a tour to Kutna Hora which was very interesting and fun.

we have absolutely no complaints about any of the places we visited, hope you have fun!

Hello Juliane. If you will be in GERMANY for 10 days, you will have enough time to go to all the places that you mentioned : Rhine River (Bacharach, boat ride, Marksburg), Mosel River (Burg Eltz), Romantic Road (Wurzburg, Rothenburg), and Berlin. Some travelers went in a train from Wurzburg to Berlin. I guess you will want to go to Berlin last, and ride in a train from Berlin to Czech Republic or Poland. At what place will you enter Germany ? Frankfurt airport ?

Yes. Flying into Frankfurt, then my boyfriend flies out of Frankfurt and that is where I meet my mom 10 days later!

I was thinking Berlin first right from Frankfurt airport terminal. Then take the train to Cologne then onto the Mosel and Rhine. If theres time the Romantic Road and Munich.

I was wondering if that was doable. Or if it would be better to go straight to the Romantic Road and Munich then to the Rivers...

I traveled in this area 3 years ago. I second the suggestions that you should definitely do Munich and the Neuschwanstein/Hohenschwangau Castles southwest of Munich. You can do the castles as a day trip. I highly recommend Mike's Bike Tours and their day trip (office in the Munich Train Station).

I also recommend going to Dachau, the concentration camp (10 miles) northwest of Munich. Also, Prague and Krakow are great destinations. If you go to Krakow, Auschwitz is a must see (another concentration camp). If you only want to go to one, Auschwitz is by far the most moving and comprehensive.

There are also the slat mines outside of Krakow that are great and in the RS book.

Happy Travels!

Juliane: Berlin is worth seeing and I hope you do it. However, being in the northeast corner of Germany, it's distant from your other destinations and so whether you do it first or last it will require traveling to the northeast part of Germany.

I did not know you will return to the Frankfurt airport after 10 days in Germany. But I still think you can go to Berlin, and all the other places I mentiond. You could be in Berlin two whole days. Not enough time to also go to Munich and Neuschwanstein. In my opinion: Berlin is more interesting than Munich. And, if a tourist visits the Wurzburg palace and chapel and town and Rothenburg (in two days), visiting the Bavarian castles Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau is not important, in that trip. I think there is a high-speed train for traveling from Frankfurt to Berlin.

Juliane, I recommend go to the rivers first. Ride in trains from the Frankfurt airport to Bacharach or St. Goar. Stay at a hotel in one of those towns for four nights. Forget about KOLN. Your fifth night could be at Wurzburg or Rothenburg.

Juliane, an other option : after leaving the Rhine River, visit Rothenburg one day and one night. Do not visit Wurzburg. But you could go from the Wurzburg train station to Berlin. Stay at Berlin four nights : you would have two whole days in Berlin, and one day for a day trip from Berlin to the Sans Souci Palace (of Frederick the Great of Prussia)and Baroque chapel at Potsdam (if it is open this year). I think the Sans Souci palace is one of the best palaces in Europe.
