I'm going to be traveling in western Germany in Sept & would like to stay in a castle. The info on the web is overwhelming & I don't see listings in Rick's book. Any sugestions.

We've stayed in 4 or 5 castles during several trips to Germany. We used only this website:

to book the castle hotels. Although you can probably find web pages for the individual castles and book directly possibly saving a few Euro. The nicest castle we've stayed in probably was Castle Colmberg near Rothenberg OdT.
However, the most "fun" castle was probably Castle Veldenstein which is about a 30 minute train ride East of Nurnberg...very close to the Czech border. We rented a huge ensuite family room with 2 bedrooms for a couple of nights for our family of 4. With a good breakfast included in the high season of June our total bill was about 70 Euros.
The castle owner spoke very little English but was quite nice and let us roam all around the place - even to the tops of the towers and down to the dungeons. There is a train station in the little town about 10 minutes walk from the castle.
