Going to Germany this summer and also going to stop in the Black Forest area anyone have any info??
This might not be appropriate depending on what you really want to know, but my favorite part of the Black Forest is the north (Bad Wildbad, Bad Herrenalb, Calw, Freudenstadt). In the south, there is a scenic rail line running up a narrow valley, with waterfalls and tunnels. It's called the Schwarzwaldbahn and goes from Offenburg to Donaueschingen through Triberg.
Susan, your post is pretty vague, it would be like me asking about going to Illinois and does anyone have any info about it.
Posting your travel times, your interests, how many people, the dates, budget for hotels, means of travel, etc. will help us to help you.
Yeah.... that's a pretty open-ended question...
If you could narrow the focus a bit there are lots of folks on here who know a lot about Germand and the Black Forest...
Have you bought Rick's book on Germany yet?
What are your interests?
Do you have any cities that seem to be of initial interest to you?
Ok did not know it was that big just did a little research. I did want to go to Baden Baden found a hotel there. Also going to Munich and Fussen decieded not to do the RR. Only have 3-4 days the rest are going to be spent in Switzerland.
Baden Baden is great. I highly recommend the Hotel Am Markt. Pack your swimsuit and don't miss the Caracalla thermal baths. Or if you don't mind swimming naked with strangers, the Friedrichsbad. Baden Baden is full of great places to eat & shop. IMO it's a don't miss stop in the Black Forest.
Go to Amazon.com and buy Visitor's Guide Germany: Black Forest by George Wood. It has everything you ever want on planning and taking a trip there. Dated 1994, but just ignore the restaurant and lodging listings, for not much else has changed in this somewhat out-of-the-way area (since you have to have a car, although there is a local train from Freiburg to the Tittisee). Combine it with a good map. I'm partial to the Tittisee. Taking the road from Baden Baden to Freiburg is terrific (a long day).
"since you have to have a car"
Hah! Reminds me of the old joke that according to the laws of aerodynamic, bumblebees can't fly. But no one ever told that to the bumblebee.
Fortunately, no one ever told me I had to have a car in the Black Forest, or I would have missed out on some great scenic train rides.
BTW, if you stay some places in the Black Forest, you get a Konus card with you Kuxtax. With the Konus card you can ride the trains and buses in the Black Forest free.
Thanks that is alot of great info and yes we will have a car but will also look at taking a train to see other sites.
