Germany/Austria for Christmas & New Years 2008

Hello,

Can anyone give us some traveling ideas while we are in Munich? We will be flying 12/24/08 returning home 1/3/09. From what I have read...I think we are going to miss the Christmas Markets, which we were hoping to see. We haven't made our travel arrangements yet as we are still tryng to figure out where and what to do in Europe during Christmas/New Years. Suggestions would be greatly appreciated. We love to do day tours, but were also wondering if we should visit other countries while we are there during this trip.

Thanks,
Brenda

Nothing is more romantic and nowhere is better party at New Year's Eve than in Austria. Consider Salzburg or even a small town in the mountains. All TV, radio stations and all bars, pubs, restaurants play the Blue Danube waltz at midnight and everywhere - city, town and village - people dance it in the streets. Make dinner booking as early as possible!!

Brenda, while in Munich you should go to the Augustiner Brauerei. It's less crowded and cheaper than the Hofbrauhaus and the food is delicious and beer is wonderful. It's supposedly the oldest brewery in Munich. We still enjoyed the Hofbrauhaus, but we didn't eat there. It's SO expensive!
