Germany-Austria-Czech- best regions to stay?

Opinion question:
What "areas" in the following cities would you consider the best to stay regarding accessibility to the rest of the city and anything else you may consider:
Berlin
Dresden
Munich
Vienna
Prague

Thanks
(And thanks to everyone so helpful with my post Berlin and (?) You can see Dresden is now on the schedule :)

Dresden consists of two main parts: Old town (South of the Elbe river) and New Town (Neustadt, North of the river). Dresden Neustadt is student town, great nightlife spots, movie theatres, pubs, clubs, etc. The old town is more about historic sights etc. But of course Dresden got completely bombed out during WW2 and the socialists were more about creating wide boulevards etc. than recreating those tiny old streets so that even there you'll find many, many modern areas. Prager Str (Prague St) is the main shopping street, pedestrian zone and very well connected with the rest of the old town. There is a Mercure and Ibis hotel in that street. The Art-O-Tel is very close to the Zwinger and other historic sights and of course the #1 hotel in town is the historic baroque Taschenberg Palais (Kempinski hotel). Do make sure you spend time around the VW all-glass-manufacturing site (great park!) and the rose garden. BERLIN: Best mix of accessibility to main sights and cool nightlife is the area between Oranienburger Str. and Hackescher Markt which also includes the Radisson among others. Alternatively you might want to try Soviet Germany's #1 hotel, the stand-alone "skyscraper" which now is the Park Inn on Alexander Square. Trains from all airports, underground, busses, trams all stop just outside! MUNICH: Try the Torbräu hotel. Walking distance to everything. PRAGUE: Joseph's town (side streets of Parizka street, between the InterContinental and the main square of old town) is best IMO. VIENNA: Everything inside of or close to the Ring Str. is ideal. For all hotels check rates with HRS.COM. They also provide those little maps that might be of help.

Munich - by the train station. There are a couple nice hotels with good prices (Days Inn there I think), and it's an easy walk to the train station and to downtown (well under 1km each).

Vienna - anywhere around the ring or Mariahilfestrasse. But the public transportatoin is so good, that if you're comfortable with it, you can stay anywhere that's near a transpo line. Hope that helps! Both cities are very walkable! :)

Hi Eric,
Another suggestion for Berlin is the area near Savignyplatz and Bahnhof Zoo. It's easy to access public transportation from there and there are several interesting restaurants in the neighborhood. Pension Peters is a good budget option.

I like to stay in the Old Town in Prague, since it is central to walk everywhere and the center of all the people watching and restaurants. In Vienna, we stay right next to the Opera, and again, it is easy to walk to all the sights and cafes and the U-Bahn is right there as well to go out to Schonbrunn or the Heuringers. I have not been to Berlin or Dresden, but we are headed there in May. After much research, we are near Unter der Linden and Fredrichstrasse in the former East Berlin an in Dresden right across the river from the Old Town. We really like to walk everywhere so my recommendations are based on seeing a lot of sights and walking! Hope this helps!
