My wife and I are considering the tour of Germany, Austria and Switzerland for 2012. What's the best time to go for gardens, events and weather?

Doug, I'd suggest either May / June or September / October. I've found that the weather is usually good at those times of the year, although of course there are never any guarantees. That's a fairly popular tour, so I'd suggest booking as soon as you finalize a date. As of today, two of the spring 2012 tours are already fully booked (Waitlist only). I suspect other dates will fill quickly, especially after the "Test Drive A Tour Guide" presentations in January in Seattle. Rick usually offers a $100 discount for people that book on the day of the big travel event (presumably that will be the same this time). If this is your first RS tour, you're in for a treat! My wife and I took RS 14 day G/A/S tour this last Aug/Sept and had a great time (our 9th RS tour). If you go to the specific site of the tour you are thing about, look over on the right had column towards the bottom and you will see Tour Weather. Click on that to see some monthly weather information. Of course, get the RS guide books covering wherever you decide to go.

Hello there, My wife and I have only been to Europe once, last week of April/First week of May, and didn't have any problems with the weather. It was a bit chilly at times, but no problems with the rain. Unfortunately since it was still early in the spring, the gardens weren't in bloom yet, but we were still had a great time.
