My daughter and friends will be staying near Straubing. They want to see Neuschwastein a posible overnight,Munich, Passau, Nurnsberg, and a river cruise any suggestions?
Forget the youth passes - too expensive and not necessary. They can travel all day on regional trains anywhere in Bavaria with a Bayern-Ticket for only €27, total, for all four of them. That's only about $9 per day per person. Only restriction is travel has to begin after 9 AM on weekdays.
Thanks for the tip .Do you have any more tips for travel too Neuschwastein or Munich, as they are flying out of Munich anad must make at least three trips. I'll check to see if the pass you mentioned includes Munich.
Again thank you

The Bayern-Ticket is valid to/from anywhere in Bavaria as long as you ride regional trains (RE, RB, S-bahns, ALX, BOB). It is also valid for all conveyances (S-/U-bahn, streetcars, and buses) within the local Verkehrsverbund (transit district) of Munich, Nürnberg, and others. Note: rail passes are not valid for means other than S-bahn within a Verkehrverbund.
You can get the ticket from any ticket automat in German Rail stations in Bavaria.
Read about it at www.bayern-takt.de; click "Englische Version".
You asked about Neuschwanstein. According to the schedules on Bahn.de, the best connections are all regional trains, so the Bayern-Ticket works for that. Unfortunately if they wait until 9 AM (9:16) on a weekday, the earliest they can get to Füssen is 2 PM. They might want to schedule the trip TO Füssen for a weekend day so they can leave earlier. Another alternative, to get to Füssen by 1 PM will cost a little more. The 8:16 connection from Straubing changes trains in Neufahrn at 9:06. They could buy point-point tickets from Straubing to Neufahrn for €6,40 each, then use the Bayern-Ticket from there. That ends up about €13 each, but still far less than individual tickets from Straubing to Füssen.
When they get to Füssen, the bus to Hohenschwangau, where the castles are, leaves from the far side of the parking lot on the other side of the station building. If they have a Bayern-Ticket, it will cover the bus fare as well.
