German Wine festivals

Has anyone gone to the Stuttgart Wine Village festival starting the end of August to beginning of September or the Rheingau Frankfurt Wine Festival during the same date? If you have gone to either of them was it worth it? Has anyone stayed in Stuttgart and could recommend a hotel.

The one in Frankfurt is held along the Fressgasse, and is usually 30 vineyards from the Rhine, presenting about 600 wines, and there are a lot of food stands offering foods that go along with them. Lots of Rieslings, if that is a wine you like. * 29 Aug.-7 Sept. Rheingauer Wine Market & Fest During that same time period, if you are in the Frankfurt area, you can also visit some of the following fests: * 30 Aug.-2 Sept. Wine Fest, Darmstadt * 31 Aug.-2 Sept. Taunus Strasse Fest, Wiesbaden * 31 Aug.-3 Sept. Lantern Fest, Bad Homburg v.d. Hoehe * 2 Sept. Antique Market, Koenigstein im Taunus * 6-9 Sept. Schloss Estate Festival, Buedingen, Palace Estate * 7 Sept. Wine Fest, Bad Nauheim * 7-9 Sept. Art Nouveau Festival, Bad Nauheim * 7-9 Sept. Medieval Fest, Dreieich Burg * 7-9 Sept. Wine Fest & Flea Market, Friedrichsdorf * 8-9 Sept. Fall Market & Open Door Day at the Castle, Kronberg * 9 Sept. Wine Fest and Open Door Day at the Castle Ruins & Museum, Eppstein * 9 Sept. Open Door Day Historic Idstein, Idstein * 9 Sept. Zitadelle Fest, Mainz

Around the same time (not sure of the exact date), Bad Dürkheim holds its well-known Wurstfest. Despite the name, wine is the main show here, sausages are only a small side venture.

Actually, the Bad Dürkheim Wurstmarkt is the largest wine fest in the world . This year is the 596th in the long tradition of this fest. In 2012, the fest is open 7-11 Sep and 14-17 Sep. It's a large carnival or fair atmosphere, but, with many small wine stalls operated by the many vintners from Bad Dürkheim. In this mix of large fest tents and smaller, quieter seating areas, you can enjoy over 150 different wines; from the mellow Riesling to the finest ice wine. It's a bustling fest in a small village atmosphere. Bad Dürkheim is 1 hour 15 minutes from Franfurt; south-southwest of Frankfurt and just west of Mannheim.

Went to the Stuttgart festival last year, it's a lot of fun! It bills itself as the largest in Germany (not sure of that's true). There are also wine festivals in Southern Germany all summer long and into fall, anywhere that grows grapes, there will be a festival. They vary from a few stands and benches on a pedestrian street to something more closely resembling a beer festival with traditional bands and table dancing. I've only stayed in one hotel in Stuttgart that I wouldn't recommend, but there are many hotels within blocks of the wine village to stay at. What's your price range?
