German Town from RS ETTBD 14 Day Europe Tour (lunch stop)

Hello. Help! A few years ago, my brother and I went on the ETTBD 14 day Best of Europe Tour (which was awesome! highly recommended!) and we stopped for lunch in a German town that I believe was on or near the Italian border (there were a lot of Italians who lived/worked there who didn't speak English). We had a little quick walking tour and then were on our own for lunch. It was very beautiful, sunny, on the water (you could rent paddle boats, etc.). Neither of us can remember the name of the town and where it was. Does anybody have any ideas?
Thanks!

Darrell,

Are you sure it wasn't a town in Austria? I don't believe Germany borders on Italy? Can you recall if the Bus travelled on the Brenner Autostrada on the journey from Austria to Germany?

Hmm...maybe it was Austria. I know they spoke German so it could've been Austria and not Germany. I don't really remember how we got there unfortunately. It was 3 or so years ago and I wasn't really paying attention, I was probably gabbing or snoozing on the bus LOL. I know it was seaside (or on the water anyways). I wish I could remember more!

Never mind, I just answered my own question after all these years LOL It's Lindau, Germany. I was browsing the Germany tours and found one tour that says they stop for lunch in Lindau, Germany so I looked it up on Wikipedia and sure enough, that's the place! Even though I went on a different tour, I'm glad they listed it on this one. It's a beautiful little town, I would LOVE to visit again one day.

Thanks! :)

P.S. I guess it's not really near Italy at all LOL I think there must have just been a large Italian pocket within the town.

Lindau. Although I wouldn't really call it a "backdoor", it is one of my favorite places in Germany. I was first there in 1988. Now every time I go to the Allgäu, I make a day trip to Lindau. I just love walking the winding medieval street, looking at the old building, etc. The painted buildings remind me, in a way, of Oberammergau. I was there with my wife a few years ago and we found, near the churches, a museum with rooms appointed with furniture, etc, of a certain era. Each floor had a room from a different period.

Hi Lee, thanks for sharing! That sounds like a neat museum. I'm definitely going to have to go back some time and check it out.

The train comes into the west end of the island and the harbor is right there, too. We walked to the east end of the island, where the road comes in from the mainland. There is a square, the Marktplatz, I think, with the two main churches on the island, Katholic and Evangelisch. Right there in the square is also the Stadtmuseum (City museum). They might not always have the same exhibits, but when we were there, they were interesting.

Oh, I do remember the two churches, our guide mentioned them and how they had to stagger their clocks a bit so they could both chime on the hour, etc. Thanks for the info!
