German Rail Pass for train & ship

Need something clarified: can we use a German railpass on both the K-D ship line and a train on the same day, and it still only counts as one day's travel? Rick's wording in the book is not clear on this issue.

As long as you are using your railpass for that day, it can be used on the K-D ship line, just like it were any other travel leg. What you can't do is use the K-D ship and not have that day count on your railpass.
