German Rail Pass and Visit to Hallstatt

I am looking for some advice with train travel and a visit to Hallstatt. We bought German Rail Passes as most of our vacation time will be spent in Germany. My two questions are: Q1) I read that the German Rail Pass is good for one travel day from Munich to Salzburg. We will be coming from Fussen, through Munich, then onto Salzburg, Austria. Does anybody know if that would still be covered under one travel day since our departure starts in Fussen not Munich, Germany? Q2: Departing from Salzburg on our way to Vienna, we are considering visiting Hallstatt as a side tour. Is this doable in one day? Does anyone know if there is a place to store luggage before we visit Hallstatt?
Thank you in advance for your replies.

A day of your German Rail pass is good for travel anywhere on the German Rail system, and that includes the strech from Freilassing into Salzburg, which is run by German Rail. Once you get to Salzburg, you wont' be in Germany any more; you'll need to buy Austrian Rail tickts. It doesn't matter whether your travel begins in Füssen or in Munich, the German Rail pass will be valid into Salzburg. You'll go through Munich on your way from Füssen to Salzburg). I would be possible to visit Hallstatt as a day trip from Salzburg, although I would not recommend it. I would suggest you spend at least one night in Hallstatt. There are a lot of lockers in the Salzburg station. If you are going to go from Salzburg to Vienna, with a stop in Hallstatt, you get off the main Salzburg-Vienna line at Attnang-Puchheim. Austrian Rail indicates that there are a few lockers at the Attnang-Puchheim station. There are more lockers in the station at Bad Ischl, part way to Hallstatt.

Thank you for your response Lee. We decided to drop one day's stay in Salzburg and spend one night in Hallstatt instead; traveling the next day to Vienna. I appreciate the advice.
