I have been listening to traditional folk music on Youtube and some them look like they are filmed at large outdoor events and feature a variety of people singing and playing musical instruments such as accordians, etc. I am curious if anyone would know of places on the web where I could learn about those kinds of events that we could possibly attend while we are in Germany this October. Jerry, I had occasion to check Munich's website today and they have an upcoming events monthly calendar, with the events described by category. I didn't check October but at the end of next April there is such an outdoor festival in the Munich area. I don't know where you'll be but there may be harvest or fall festivals even in very small towns but probably not in late October. In fact, I visited one several years ago in a village, where the individual farmers where hosting afternoon coffee and cake affairs on trestle tables in their yards to benefit the local volunteer fire department. They had visiting brass bands and choirs, too. The larger cities have English versions of their websites as you undoubtedly know but the smaller towns probably do not.

Lot of different festivals going on all through the year and for every imaginable thing. Bad Nauheim near Frankfurt just finished an Elvis Festival. One of our neighborhoods - Sachsenhausen, just had its 519th Fountain Festival. You will get all kinds of music of course. Smaller towns will be a bit different with a different flavor. Here is a list of events going on just in the Frankfurt / Rhein Main area. Most of them will have some sort of music. The Jazz Festival in Frankfurt would be a good one. Hessen Park is an Open Air Museum near Bad Homburg
