German Grand Prix Hockenheimring Public Transportation

Hi all. Looking for someone who has taken public transportation to the Hockenheimring. I will be basing out of Heidelburg. I see stations on the Bahn website, but not sure if there are buses from the Bahnhof or not. Walking a distance in not a problem.

You lucky boy!! I can't help with your question, sorry, but I bet there's a decent plan knowing German transport as I do. Doesn't the Hockenheimring website give any hints? Need anybody to carry your stuff? Don't bet on Vettel - or Button. For old times's sake it would be nice to see Michael pull a pole to flag... (It'll be my man Lewis, though)

Nigel, thanks for the reply. I was just in Germany last summer and used the train and buses often. Just trying to nail down some specifics. The track website gives only a car map, not a public transport map.

When using the Bahn website, make the destination "Hockenheimring" and change "station/stop" to "POI" (point of interest). The website will prompt you with "Hockenheim, Hockenheimring (Sport). The most direct route appears to be a two train connection from Heidelberg to Hockenheim Bahnhof via Mannheim, then by bus 731 to "Hardtstraße/Hochhaus, Hockenheim", and a 20 min walk from there to the Ring. If you expand the connection using the red box with '>', it will show you a 20 min walk (link). Click on the link to get a map of the walk. It's 1.6 km (1 mile). If you stay on the bus to the "Waldstraße/Friedhof, Hockenheim" stop, the walk will be shorter (about 1 km), but you get to that bus stop later, so the entire trip will take longer. You can also take a bus from Heidelberg directly to Hockenheim Bahnhof in about the same time. You double posted, here and under "transportation". You should delete the other post.

Lee, thank you for the tip. I have used Bahn's website this year and last, but did not realize that you could put in a point of interest. That is a great tip you provided. It looks like their is no direct bus service on weekends to the track. My Friday trip works, but not the weekend. Hopefully their will be bus service over the "big" weekend. If not I'll have to figure our how I am getting from the track to the train station. :)

I've just spoke to the fan hotline at the Hockenheimring who has explained to me that there are frequent easy shuttle buses from Hockenheim station to the track. That is the case for all 4 days of the weekend - free practice, qualifying, race day. He spoke good English and was very helpful.
