German Fairy Tale Road

We are planning to spend 6-7 days on the German Fairy Tale Road. Does anyone have any recommendations of accommodations and things we need to see? By the way we are two teachers traveling on Grant money to explore the Brothers Grimm

We are also going to France and Italy. In France we are looking at Perrualt's Tales and Italy we are looking at Collodi. I would love to see your itinerary! We don't want to miss anything!

I haven't seen all the FTR towns, but Hannoversch Münden is outstanding, and Rinteln, a non-FTR town between Bad Oeyenhausen and Hameln, has a spectacular collection of the Weserrennaisance buildings for which the area is so well known. I'd plan a stop there as well.

I did just this trip several years ago! Hope I can dig out my itinerary. Some great places and experiences. When are you going? Do you have your plane tickets yet? Does the 6 - 7 days include your international travel time? The first day in Europe I always consider a Recovery Day with limited sightseeing. The last day really is all about getting to the airport and being there 3 hours in advance. What fun!

I am a librarian and we did the German part of the European children's literature trail on a couple of different trips to Germany recently. For the German part of your trip be sure you allow time for the Grimm museum in Kassel. It is a fantastic museum. We spent 2 days in Hameln and went south one day along the Weser River to the town of Barron von Munchhausen. We stayed over night in "Sleeping Beauty's" castle in Sababurg, a great experience. I was charmed by the little villages of Hanau where the BG were born and Steinau where they lived as young men. These were all highlights for us. Have a great trip!

Hi, Carmen. It's me, Jill from Houston (you contacted me on facebook). I am glad you found rick steve's forum. This is one of the best places to ask questions. My partner and I are also planning on staying at Sleeping Beauty's Castle (probably just for one night). I was told to splurge and get a tower room. As for the museum in Kassel, it is closed until late this year. :( We are planning on one night in Bremen, one in Hameln, one night at the castle, 2 nights in marburg, and one more night somewhere else. Here is the info about the Fairytale Festival at the Castle in Hanau. The shows are in German, but we are hoping to go. http://www.hanau.de/kultur/grimm/index.html This is a book i just ordered online about the fairy tale road. http://bookstore.bethel.edu/MerchDetail.aspx?MerchID=865401&num=1&start=51&end=83&type=1&CategoryName=Bethel+Authors&CatID=9814&Name=Bethel+Authors I will talk to you more about it when I see you Wednesday. :)
