Except for Munich, I rarely stay in big cities. I don't find them that interesting. Do your research; there are so many places in Germany more interesting than the big cities and far less expensive to stay in. I'd say that, after 16 weeks this century, mostly in Germany, I have experience. Staying in smaller towns most of the time, I average about €30/night, with breakfast. Triple rooms are a little more difficult to find, but shouldn't cost more than three times a single, surely no more than €100/nt. For smaller towns, reservations can usually be found using the town website, www.town_name.de. If you can find these websites, they will usually have 2-3 times as many listings, usually the more economical ones, as the booking websites, which charge a big commission to the properties.

€150 for 3 should not be a problem in many parts of Germany. Last summer I did an entire fortnight through western Germany and my wife and I never spent more than €100 a night, often quite a bit less. 3 should work in €150 no problems, but you may have to work at it as 3 beds are much less common than 2. Are you driving or training? If you can stay in nearby villages or towns you will do very well ...

I would include Hrs.com in your search efforts. They often have dozens or even hundreds of ratings that I find dependable. They only allow ratings by folks that have reserved through them and have been confirmed in their stay. They give a map and distances to the town center, the train station and principle sights. Click on a double room and then change adults to three. They only list hotels that have rooms available which will save you fruitless contacts to full hotels. Reserving through them is about as painless as it gets and you get an email that full explains the terms that you reserved the room under.

Like Lee, we stay mostly in smaller towns but we might spend anywhere from 70 EUR to 150 EUR depending on the gasthof or hotel. From your list, Heidelberg is the only city where we have overnighted and we stayed at the Crown Plaza Hotel because it was where the Frankfurt Airport Shuttle drops off and picks up passengers. We paid 124 EUR non refundable for a double so I don't know if you could get a triple that falls within your budget. It was a very nice hotel, however, with a great buffet breakfast and attentive staff. Also check www.booking.de or booking.com. We have had good luck booking German hotels through them in the past.

There is an Ibis Hotel across the street from the train station in Heidelberg. I have not stayed there but it seems to be nice and have reasonable rates.

Thanks y'all!
Lee, for the website you suggested I assume that I type the word town then _ then the name of the town & .de, is that correct? Does the name have to be the German name? I tried Freiburg & Bonn but that didn't produce results.

No. Type www. , then the town name, then .de . It really helps if you use the German name. For instance, bacharach would be www.bacharach.de. I'll look up Freiburg. Trouble is these profit added booking sites have corralled the major towns, so you can't get a better deal if they have. I answered your PM.
