Gengenbach AND Triberg

Any suggestions on which is the better place to say the night? Can we stay in Gengenbach and still visit Triberg easily. Is there free transport (Konus Kart) to and from. Do we obtain the Kart at any lodging in the area? Is Triberg worth going to? We are doing the Rhine, Heidelberg, Black Forest and then on to Ludwig's Castle possibly Eagle's nest. Any suggestions on lodging in either town would be great. We are 3 girls Mother and daughter. The youngest is 9. I thought Triberg would be fun for her. Any help on the roads from Heidelberg area to Black Forest would be great as we are driving.

Gengenbach and Triberg are connected by one of the most scenic rail lines in Germany, the Schwarzwaldbahn. At the northern end, near Gengenbach, is the Schwarzwald open air museum. BTW, Kart has no meaning in German. It's Konus Karte (card, ticket, etc). And you should get it from any lodging that charges a Kur Tax. It's a great deal and totally frees you from needing a car. In 2008 I used it one day to go from where I was staying, Bad Herrenalb, to Baden-Baden by bus. The next day I used the bus and train to go to Calw, home town of Herrman Hesse, a lovely fachwerk town on the Nagold river. Never cost me a cent.

They are all supposed to everywhere in the Black Forest area. It's sort of like the added sales tax some states here charge in resort areas. It's common all over Germany in resort areas. It's usually a Euro or two per day. In Germany it is used, among other things to finance to TI office and the visitor's center. With it you get free use of the visitors center. There is often a bus in town for free. You get free or reduced entrance to attractions like swimming pools, spa, museums. And yes, it would cover you on the train between Gengenbach and Triberg. There is a Regional Express (RE) every two hours that makes the trip direct in 37 min.
