Gengenbach accommodation

We plan to visit the Black Forest in the fall & would like to base in
Gengenbach. We will not have a car. Can someone recommend a gaestehaus, pensions. Or privatzimmer in walking distance from the train station? Thanks in advance for your help.

I suggest you go to www.gegenbach.de. They list 3 places actually in Gegenbach, as well as others in the neighborhood.

I haven't stayed at this place, but it looks to be within walking distance of the station and old town zone. I've bookmarked it as a possibility for an upcoming trip. Fewo (vacation rental) Moser

What sort of a budget do you have in mind, Kim? How long will your stay be? For 2 people? We have been very happy at the Hotel Restaurant Die Reichsstadt which often has deals including very good meals. Their base price has gone up some since the big remodel last year. Friendly helpful folks, excellent dinners, very good brekkies, they issue the free travel Konus Card, 5 minutes walk to the station, right in the centre of town.

Thanks for the information. We are 2 people, looking for 3-4 nt accommodation & hoping to stay under 70-80 euro/nt. Lee, we've found accommodation listings on city websites before & while all have been good, some were much further from the train station or city center than we expected despite the addresses in small towns. I am looking for suggestions from those who are familiar with the town & may be able to give me some choices for close in accommodation (or tell me what other options are). Thanks again.

I think that the Reichsstadt would be out of your budget. The weekly special package including the spa and breakfast; and one evening 5 course meal, and daily cake and coffee in the garden, is what we have enjoyed in the past. As I said, their prices have risen. It is now €800 for the week. That's too bad. I understand that the Salt and Pepper may be lower priced, and are in a decent location. Not a recommendation because I haven't used it but it looks nice.

We stayed in the Salt and Pepper a few years ago and had a good experience. It's in a beautiful idyllic setting a kilometer or two outside of town - not within walking distance of the train station for us, but maybe for you. However, the manager, Julia, was very helpful at finding the train schedules for us and she even took us to the station one day. Breakfast was included in the price and the restaurant is pretty good. I don't know what the prices are these days, but I would recommend it. However, you have to climb a bunch of stairs to get to the restaurant (lowest level) and another set to get to the rooms. Not good if you are mobility-impaired.
