With the timing set by another trip I will be arriving in Geneva on a Monday and eaving from Geneva the folowing Sunday morning. The main imitation to plannning is that I need to be in Visp on Wednesday and Thursday nights. (Visp is kinda nowhere, more or ess due east of Geneva) This wi be my first time in Switzerand and I know it is too short of a trip. But it is what it is and I'd love some advice: - Should I stay a couple of nights in Geneva? Or one ther and one in some other smaller place along the road to Visp? - What I read on the help ines here are that the journey is haf or more of the fun and beauty. Any suggestions on routings? One of us will have the two days in Visp free to roam whie the other, alas, wi be working those two days.
- What things would people put on their "you really ought to do" or "try to get to" lists? Thanks!
I'd say Montreux is on the way and worth a stop. There is the famous Chillon castle right along the lake. Visp maybe kinda nowhere, but it is the jumping off station for the cograilway to Zermatt and the Matterhorn. That would definately make a "you really ought to do" or "try to get to" list.
Phil, help the board members help you......what time of the year will you be doing this trip?
Yes, it makes a huge difference what time of year you will be there. And Visp isn't in the middle of nowhere; it is the intersection of important train routes, and the gateway to Zermatt, home of the Matterhorn. But you can only go to Zermatt by train. Like many mountain villages, it is car-free. You likely do not want to rent a car for this trip.
Our travel is next week, so end of Apri. And we certainy aren't thinking of renting a car! Thanks for the start on ideas and I'l keep watching here until the plane takes off heading to Geneva!
