Rick's hotel recommendations are not availble when we're in Geneva. I'm looking at the Hotel Bristol and the Hotel Edelweiss. Do you have any experience with either (or both)? Any other recommendatiosn for 2, 60+ tavelers who don't want a tour bus hotel? Thanks
We stayed at the Hotel Kipling Manotel and liked it very much. It is rated #10 by tripadvisor and is half the price of the first 9. As I recall, it is about 3 blocks from the train station which is where you would arrive if you are traveling by either train or plane.
I have stayed at the Hotel Strassburg several times over the years. I've always been satisfied there. It is less than a 5 minute walk from the rail station. Go downstairs from the main floor, walk through the shopping center and exit out onto the Rue de Mont Blanc. Go 50 meters until you reach the 1st street. Turn left. It is near the end of the block on the right.
We are two 70 year old and stayed at the East West Hotel. Very convenient to waterfront etc.. But, be agressive in negotiating specials ie that include breakfast.Try their web site and contact hotel direct.
Tanks so much. We'll check out the Eas tWest Hotel.

Rick's reccomendations aren't the only good choices in town. I've stayed in hotels and thought - whys isn't THIS one in the RS book. And some RS hotels should be dropped completely from his book such as the Grand Hotel Leveque in Paris. Go to Tripadvisor and find a decent one there. Sometimes I wonder how often Rick actually reinvestigates his hotel recommendations.
Tim, I suspect that Rick receives treatment that other travelers would not. But, even that does not explain some of the questionable locations in his recommendations. I noted in Edinburgh that many of his recommendations were far from anything of interest.
We stayed at the Hotel Edelweiss last year. It was absolutely lovely. Clean, very friendly service. Reasonable prices. It is a short walk to the city center and the water of lake Geneva. Also, unique, very "Swiss" as the name would imply. I would highly recommend it.
