Geneva airport French side

I am picking up my Europcar rental, hopefully on the French side and I am looking for suggestions for driving to Annecy or to Chamonix from this location. Is it best to just exit the airport and stay on the french side, versus driving straight across the Swiss border? Thanks,
Joe

You need a vingette for Switzerland. If your rental car does not have one you and you do not plan to visit Switzerland, it is easy to stay in France and save about 30€

This is why you selected your pick up on the French side of airport, to save $ on drop off fee. Google a map of France, look for Annecy and Chamonix, it's not that complicated. Even though I made this same trip there was confusion at toll booth, I'm forgetting, I think you'll need euros not Swiss francs. Just like in the States, you'll see an exit for Annecy. When you get to Chamonix , consider doing Mt. Blanc, but go early. You didn't state when you are doing your trip ( which month). Rick covers both of these villages in detail.

We've picked up and returned cars to the French side of the Geneva airport a couple of times w/o entering Swiss territory, or at least w/o going on the Swiss motorway. On the airport's web site there should still be a link to a map and directions for different routes to and from the airport, which includes a route avoiding the Swiss motorway. I found it very helpful.

You don't need a Vignette to set foot (or car) into Switzerland. You need a Vignette to drive on Swiss green signed roads like Autobahns and expressways. There is nothing to stop you driving a French car (with permission) across the border in the city and stay on city streets in Geneva. Just don't drive on green signed roads without it!!
