I am having trouble booking a room in Hallstatt in August. Two places are already booked but I did get a positive response from the Gasthof Hirlatz. I would like to know if anyone has stayed there and how much of a walk it is from town. Also, would like to know if you liked staying there. I would also appreciate any other recommendation. My husband and I are seniors and while we are fully able to walk, I would prefer to be in the center of town. Thanks!

Barbara, It would help to know which lodgings you've tried in Hallstatt that are already booked? Gasthof Hirlatz appears to be at the far end of the town in the small community where the Funicular goes up to the Salt Mine, and not in the main part of town at all. Given the location, it wouldn't be my first choice and the ratings on Trip Advisor seemed to be mostly favourable but a bit "mixed". Have you tried Gasthof Simony or Seehotel Grüner Baum? As you've probably concluded, for travel in August it would be a good idea to get something booked ASAP. Good luck!
