I will visit Munich in late May. I will spend a day in Garmisch-Partenkirchen and go to Zugspitze. When searching for information, I find that Partnachklamm is very beautiful and I want to go there too. I will take the train from Munich at 0732 and arrive at GP at 0859. Is it possible that I go to Zugspitze in the morning and Partnachklamm in the afternoon? How much time approximately is required for Zugspitze and Partnachklamm? Where can I get the online bus schedule to Partnachklamm? Thank you.
Zugspitze: It depends on what you want to do there. If you're not afraid of hight you can save about 40 minutes one-way by taking the cable car from Eibsee rather than staying on the cogwheel train all the time. The cable car ride is 10 minutes but it can be quite dandling (it was so yesterday when we went up there). On a beautiful day you might want to spend about 45 minutes on the summit and maybe an hour on the glacier. So yes, you can easily do it in half a day - by cable car rather then cogwheel train.
We are also going to Garmisch and the Zugspitz in late May..Looks amazing..
Go to the German Rail (Bahn) website. Put in from "Post/Bahnhof Garmisch-Partenkirchen" and leave the radio button at "station/stop". Put in to "Partnachklamm" and sel ect "POI". Pick "Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Partnachklamm (Tourismus)" from the pulldown. The connection shows a 7 min ride on bus 9608 to the Partnachklamm junction on Wildenauer Str., then a 24 min walk.
If you don't want to walk there are plenty of horse-cart drivers who are happy to take you up to the start for a small fee. The Partnachklamm is very cool and well worth doing, but it doesn't take all that long. We did it twice in a row (in laps) to feel like we'd gotten enough exercise.
