Other than renting a car, what is the best/easiest way to make the trip from Garmisch to Salzburg? Must you go back to Munich or thru Innsbruck?

We made the same journey but by train. All the trains went through Munich... If you go to bahn.de and put in Garmisch to Innsbruck and then Innsbruck to Salzburg, the total train time comes out to the same time as going through Munich. But I suppose if you are asking because you WANT to go through Innsbruck, that's always an option....

You can go from Garmish to Salzburg with a change of trains in Munich. This route would allow you to use a €28 Bayern-Ticket.
You can also go via Innsbruck. If you go via Innsbruck, you can either go via Germany. Local trains stop in Rosenheim, among other places; express train go through Germany without stopping. You can also go from Innsbruck entirely through Austia by way of Bischofshofen.
