Garmisch & Salzburg in the rain

We are getting ready for our trip to Bavaria and it is looking like we are going to have rain. Any suggestions for Garmisch and Salzburg if the weather is bad?

When we were in Germany a few years ago, it rained most days. I had a good umbrella and went every place we would have gone if it had not been raining. Most days the rain was not the entire day and only one time did we get really wet. I still very much enjoyed Salzburg and the Bavaria area.

Hi, Except for mountain trips, do what you plan to do. Places in the Garmisch area such as Ettal Monastery and Linderhof Palace make good rainy day options. Never count on the weather forecast being correct. For our trip in '09 the forecast, which we checked the night before departure, called for rain/bad weather just about every single day in every place we were going to be. We thought, this stinks. We had 1 day of rain, the day we arrived and a drizzle for a few hours one other day out of 11. Bring an umbrella or just buy one there. Even less than good weather can add to the experience. The morning we visited Burg Eltz was misty, damp and overcast. Just added to the "medieval" experience in my opinion. Enjoy your trip. Salzburg and the Garmich area won't disappoint.

We have used rainy days at Garmisch-Partenkirchen to (1) do a gorge hike ( Höllentallerklamm or Partnachklamm) since you get wet anyway, and (2) visit Neuschwanstein castle.

Can You go to Garmish from Munich and then go to Neuschwanstein Castle in one day? If not, which would you choose, Garmish or Neuschwanstein Castle. We also have to go back to Munich that same day. Thanks
