Any recommendations for hotels in G-P? I have not seen anything in Rick's guidebooks or much in the online archives. we are going in early July, looking for charming not touristy or modern, traveling with a family of four all adults, can stay together in a family room, bath not necessary in room.

Will you have a car? We like this place a bit outside of town; we were awakened by cowbells each morning as the cows were taken out to pasture.
they have some apartments that are good for families.

"charming not touristy" Tough order there, being that tourism is the major business in town. But anyway, with four adults, have you considered renting an apartment or chalet? Try looking on the town's official website:

Re-reading your posts, a chalet may be a good option for you. I wouldn't recommend it if you didn't have a car, because most of the vacation homes seem to sit beyond walking distance to the trainstation. But with a car, getting around won't be a problem.

If you haven't tried family style youth hostelling, this might be a good time to try it....
