We are going from Cologne to the Sheraton at CDG airport on Sunday evening. We will arrive at Gare du Nord on the Thalys train. I was thinking about a cab from there to the hotel but most people seem to recommend the RER. So is the following the best method? Buy tickets for RER B - about 10€ per person. Try to get on the express trains to avoid any stops on the way. For the Sheraton stay on the train until the last stop - terminal 2?
Is it obvious where to go after getting off the train? When we fly out the next day we take some shuttle to Terminal 1 where US Airways is located? Thanks.
Yes, the Sheraton is easy to find. All the rest sounds right. Just check to see if there is any track construction work going on, on a Sunday evening. This could cause a slower trip out to CDG.
You've got it right. To review, here is a link to a schematic map provided by your hotel, located directly above the RER stop. http://www.sheratonparisairport.com/hotel-inside-paris-cdg-airport The airport itself supplies extensive information on its official site. Here is a link to its page covering the RER terminal http://www.aeroportsdeparis.fr/ADP/en-GB/Passagers/Access-maps-car-parks/Paris-CDG/Access/public-transport/paris-cdg-rerb.htm. It says this about your stop: "'Aéroport Charles de Gaulle 2 - TGV' serves terminals 2 ABCDEF and G." Play around on that site to dig up information about dining, shopping etc. Only trick to catching the train at Gard du Nord is to keep a close eye on the train's final destination, given on the front car and the message board, and to catch the express. Aeroport Charles de Gaulle is in Roissy. Some of the B trains divert to Mitry-Claye which you do not want. Price is 9.25€. Also, keep your luggage close. The express trains, with fewer people getting on and off, pose less chance of bags going "astray".
A free automated shuttle train called the CDGVal connects the airport terminal buildings. Note that the shuttle runs Terminal 1-3-2 and reverse rather than in numerical order. Also free buses ("navettes") shuttle between various wings of Terminal 2.
