Fussen Zimmers

Are there any other Fussen Zimmers or Bed and Breakfasts any one would suggest other than the ones mentioned in the book? Also, the House LA listed in the book, does the Double mean a double bed in a room with others or would it just be my husband and I?

It could be either, depending on what you specify. They have a website, www.housela.de and by clicking the British flag it will display in English. It looks like there are two private double rooms with a shared bath at €18 pP (and up) as well as an apartment with a double bed, kit, and it's own bathroom at €22,50 pP (and up). They also have some dormitory rooms with 4 and 6 single beds. You perhaps need to specify a private double room (DZ). Personally, I've always (4 times) come into Fuessen for the day and left before night, so I've never had to get accommodations in Fuessen. However, don't rely solely on "the book". Fuessen has a website at www.fuessen.de (with English) and they provide some help with accommodations. (I think I noticed that you can only get a complete listing of properties on the German language side.)

if you have car you can find many little villages in that area, and you can rent a room from the farmers. i recall there is a pretty big lake about 5 min drive to Newschwanstain castle, and there are a couple of villages along the lake shore. I found a lot of good rooms just stay with the farmers - very cheap and comfy room, and you can get a balcony view of the castle.

Hi Leah, We also stayed (twice) at the Hotel zum Hechten in Fuessen. We would recommend staying there. Paul

Hi Paul When we were at zum Hechten they had both ensuite rooms and a section of toilet down the hall. I wonder if they have gone 100% ensuite or if there are still some with the toilet down the hall? The bells from next door are wonderful, aren't they? Do they still have the vegetarian buffet downstairs? Thanks

Hi Nigel, We stayed in '01 and '03. Both times we had a room with a toilet and a balcony that looked directly at Fuessen castle. We were on the 2nd or 3rd floor "above" the parking lot. Pretty nice room. Don't recall hearing any bells. We did like seeing Fuessen castle lit up at night right across from our balcony. Vegetarian buffet... I don't know. They had a very good breakfast buffet and a pretty good restaurant. Paul
