When we arrive by train in Fussen will be be able to walk to Hohenschwangau? I did not understand if it was part of Fussen or a different village. How far is it between Fussen and Hohenschwangau?
Thanks

I think the walk from Fuessen Bahnhof to Hohenschwangau would be a little long, although I think some people have done it. About 20 minute after the train arrives, a bus leaves from the far side of the parking lot (Haltestelle 2) and stops in Hohenschwangau just down the hill from the ticket kiosk. The trip takes 8 minutes and the cost is nominal. If you are on a Bayern-Ticket, the bus trip is included.
You may want to read about it in Rick's guidebook, if you don't want to buy the book often times you can find it at the library. We make copies of the pages that are of interest to us and take the copies with us on our trip. Then, when we're done with that particular area or sight, we just throw the copies away...or, leave them in the hotel room for the next person.
Jackie,
As I recall, the Bus ride from the station to the area of the Castles was 5-10 minutes, so it wouldn't really be practical to walk. You could also take a Taxi.
Hohenschwangau is fairly easy to get to, but Neuschwanstein is a bit of an uphill hike. If possible try to take time to go to the metal bridge opposite Neuschwanstein, as there are some great views from there.
ViaMichelin gives the distance from Fuessen Bahnhof to Hohenschwangau as 2½ miles, about 1 hr walking, so catch the bus.
