Fussen to Freiburg driving

Would appreciate the information on driving in (1) day from Fussen to Freiburg. We were thinking of driving along Lake Constance but do not know the road as the driving time could be longer? Suggestions and routes would greatly help in our planning. We do not have the option to spend the night between the two areas unfortunately. Let us know your thoughts. Thank you.

We went the opposite way, from the Freiburg area (St. Peter) to Fussen. We went by way of Lake Constance. It was beautiful there. We stopped at a little town for lunch and I wished we could have spent more time. I don't know how long another route would take, but I was glad we went by the lake.

I've driven this several times. The roads are very good and the total driving time is about 4 to 4.5 hours, leaving you time for sightseeing. Going via Lake Constance is the most scenic and shortest way. From Fussen go in the direction of Kempten on the A7, but before you get there turn SW on the B12/A980 which should be signposted for Lindau. The Lindau harbor is definitely worth stopping to see. Continue west on the B31 on the north shore of the lake. You'll come to the town of Meersburg which is also a nice place to visit (2 small castles). If you want to see one of Europe's largest flower gardens, take the car ferry from Meersburg over to Konstanz (it's about a 20" ride & rather fun), and then when you drive off the boat, follow the signs to the right that point you to Mainau Island. The island is one huge flower garden with a big castle in the middle. From there, cut over to the B33 going NW, then take the B31 west through the Black Forest to Freiburg.
