Can anyone provide information or a link to the Sommerrodelbahn near Fussen. I've been on several sites talking about it but can't find exact location, pricing, etc. Appreciate it!
Try here. Sorry, it's all in German, but, after all, you are going to Germany.
See Anfahrt for directions. Looks like it is closer to Füssen than to Hohenschwangau.
My family of four was there (assuming you mean Tegelberg) last summer. We stayed in Hohenschwangau, and in one day we started with a tour of Hohenschwangau, then toured Neuschwanstein, then walked from there to Tegelberg, and did the gondola to the top and my kids (teens) rode the luge (slide). As I recall the Gondola pricing was somewhat confusing for me even while I was there (are the kids kids or adults? family ticket?), and I even speak/read some German! The luge was fairly inexpensive, but I will see if I can find the exact price if you are interested. My kids each rode once, and probably should have gone again. They thought it was fun. We ended up taking a bus back to Hohenschwangau, although it wasn't all that far to walk. That bus also went to Fuessen. Feel free to send me a message if you have more specific questions.
Hi Staci,
We went there on 2 seperate trips. It's very close (about a mile) from Neuschwanstein.
According to the website prices are:
Cable car
Adults - 24.50 (from 8:45am); 21.50 after 11am; 19.50 after 12:30pm
Sommerrodelbahn
Kids 3-15 years old - 2.10 per ride, 6 ride ticket-9.50
Adults - 2.60 per ride, 6 ride ticket-10.50
We each bought the 6 ride ticket. Once is not enough!

Thanks everyone! That's what I needed to know!! :)
I am going to be going in a couple of weeks and I am trying to get a perspective as to how far away the castles and luge are from each other. We will not have a car so will be hoofing it or are there other options? Help!
On the map it looks like 2-3 miles. As I mentioned, we started at Neuschwanstein and walked to Tegelberg, using the path that goes down by the gorge/river. Going that way, the walk is downhill the whole way! It was a beautiful day when we were there and the walk was very pleasant. There were a few spots that were not easy walking, but generally not bad. We could not really find a path labeled "to Tegelberg", but one can pretty much see where you want to go and just head in that direction. As I mentioned there is also bus service.
Cindy,
I'm not sure they will be open in a couple of weeks.
We went in mid October and they had closed the week before. It seems to be a May - Sept activity.
I can't remember the exact price but since we were five people we would have bought a multiple ride (I think ten ride) ticket that we could share.
Hi Cindy,
It's about a mile or so from Neuschwanstein. See my post above.
We went on the Sommerrodelbahn (luge ride) twice in late October, '01 and '03.

I agree with the above poster. One ride is not enough! I had my first and second luge rides at age 60 and can't wait to go again. I could have easily gone six times! Enjoy.
