Hi. My 2 teenage children and I will be in the Fussen area for 2 nights seeing the castles, etc. Would you recommend staying in Fussen or Schwangau? I'm a little concerned that there might not be enough to do in Schwangau, but I've heard that the views are amazing. Any opinions on the two towns are greatly appreciated. Thanks.
I stayed in Fussen for 2 night to see the castles. My wife and I biked to them. It is only about 3 miles. There are numerous areas to bike. At night the town is much less chaotic than during the day when tourists abound. It may be a bit quiet for 2 teenagers.
There will be plenty to do in Schwangau for 2 nights. For starters the area is is chocked full of bike paths, and most hotels have bike for their guests. The bike paths are highly enjoyable. The Crystal Therme indoor/outdoor pool/spa/sauna is in Schwangau. Tegelberg is an easy bike ride or about a 5 minute car ride. Riding the summer luge at Tegelberg was a huge hit for our group. The area is beautiful. If you have a car it is also a very very easy drive to Castle Linderhof.
Thanks for all of your replies. We will be arriving by train and will not have a car. I'm leaning towards Fussen at this point, thinking my kids might enjoy the flavor of the town more. Thanks again.
In Horn-Schwangau this is the place we really liked a lot: http://www.hotel-helmerhof.de/en
