I like Gasthof Fraundorfer in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. You can't see from the pictures, but there's ample parking in the back.

Hi Deb- I noticed that you are looking for hotels for 1 night stands in various cities. Rather than give you a list of hotels, you could go on one of several booking sights, look at the location of the available hotels with prices, amenities, and ratings, and make decisions based on more than a stranger's recommendations. For example, I don't like hotels with rooms on upper floors without elevators (lifts). Yet there is a very nice hotel in Rothenburg ODT that is in the middle of town, reasonably priced, and parking is available. But the stairwell leading to the upper floors is very narrow. I ate supper in their restaurant last year but I would not rent a room because of the stairs. ( The meal was so-so.)
I have had great success with Tripadvisor.com and Booking.com. Good luck and have a great trip!!!

"and their food was great" If there's better potato soup somewhere on this planet than Fraundorfer's, I haven't tasted it yet. PS- Their food is actually much better than it used to be. I was underwhelmed the first time I visited.

Tom's recommendation is a great one. We stayed there with our 2 kids and parents when we traveled to Germany. We stayed in the cottage in the back of the hotel. They had a great slap-dancing show and their food was great.

You may also want to consider Gasthaus Maria on Zoepritzstrasse on the Garmisch side of Garmisch-Partenkirchen. I stayed there in 2012. A single was around 60 Euros per night with a generous and tasty included breakfast (Frau Thier used to be in the restaurant business). Each room has a private bath and they have doubles, not just single rooms. Parking is available as is wi-fi. Great restaurants within walking distance. Looking forward to staying there again if I can get over to Germany again.

Just received a card in the mail from the Best Western Obermuehle in Garmisch. They just finished a complete gut remodel, rooms look nice. We stayed there a few years ago when it was still 1970s style, but apparently they are now having new 'grand opening' specials. It's a great location, has a pool and plenty of parking.
