From Strasbourg to Fussen

(Actually, we'll be starting out in the town of Saverne, France--just west of Strasbourg.) To make this trip, we will have to take FOUR trains: Saverne to Strasbourg, Strasbourg to Stuttgart, Stuttgart to Augsburg, Augsburg to Fussen. (Sigh). We will use Eurail Select Passes (first-class/three countries).

Should I try to make reservations from the U.S. for the specific trains we're planning to take? And can that be done online well in advance? Is there a fee for making reservations? I'm a little concerned that some trains arrive only 10 to 15 minutes before the connecting trains is scheduled to leave; however, it's what the Eurail web site recommended, so I guess it's enough time. Any thoughts?

Thanks

The Augsburg to Füssen leg will be on a regional train; there are no express trains on that route. There are no reservations possible for regional trains.

I have traveled a lot in Germany, never with a reservation. Unless you are doing this on a very popular holiday, you should not need reservations.

If you really want reservations for Strasbourg to Stuttgart and Stuttgart to Augsburg, make them from the Bahn website. I think it is only €2 per train and direction if you make the reservations and purchase a ticket online. It's €4 for reservations alone on the Bahn site.

Ten to fifteen minutes sounds like plenty of time to make a connection. Just make sure you know the platform for your next connection and be at the end of the car, ready to get off, when the train stops.

You've been very helpful, Lee. Thanks so much.

By the way, I assume the Eurail pass still works for the regional train to Fussen, yes?
