From Paris to Switzerland- where to go?

In March my friend and I are traveling to Paris for a week then we want to make our way to Venice. We are thinking about taking a train and stopping somewhere in Switzerland- any ideas for us?

For a start, most trains from Paris to Venice go through Milan. The fastest run is 10.5hrs. However, there are great high-speed TGV runs from Paris to either Bern or Basel (depending on which Paris train station you depart) where you can transition to other areas of Switzerland. Travel to Venice from Switzerland is not difficult. Where in Switzerland do you wish to visit? Also, where do you fly out of? You can easily get cheap airfares to Paris Orly from Venice Marco Polo if you need to return to Paris for departure.

thanks- I really have no idea where I went to go in Switzerland. We just looked at the map and it seemed like a nice stop between Paris & Venice :)

I will look into Bern & the other stop and see what is around there. I am open to any suggestions!

We fly out of Paris so I was planning to look into flights just to save time.

How long of a trip do you have overall? I would suggest that Venice is an easy 2-day, 3-night visit depending on how much you wish to see. You really don't realize how much there is to see and how easy it is to get around on the vaporettos albeit quite slow. In Switzerland, I'm most familiar with the Lauterbrunnen Valley but in March, the entire area is a ski resort. I'll let others make suggestions for places to visit.

As for flights from Venice Marco Polo to Paris-CDG, Easyjet will begin flights on February 15. I'm looking at www.easyjet.com and fares are from 27Euro to 37Euro. Not bad. You'll need to book as early as you can to get the cheapest fares. Note that Easyjet is a "no frills" airline and they charge extra for almost anything.

We have extensive experience in Venice :) and are visiting some of our favorite spots.
