From Paris to Mont Saint-Michel

Are there any organized tours from Paris to Mont Saint-Michel? I would love to go there but not sure how to get there.

Daria, there are three well known and reputable companies that I personally have tried and recommend for big bus touring( not ideal, but good when one is solo and doesn't want to rent a car , or when one only has a day to do a longer trip) Cityrama ParisVisions
Paris Tourisme. The latter is generally cheaper, but you get a more international crowd,, so you will sit through a few translations for the guides commentary, not a problem to me but some people grouse about that.( it will happen with the first two companies too,, but perhaps not as much) . A bus day trip to MSM is expensive, and it will be one very long day,, but you can sleep on bus.. They also have some two or three day visits, which would be nicer. Ideally taking a train and staying overnight and just hooking up with a guide locally would be great, but not always doable for various reasons.

The three companies Pat listed have been doing tours in Paris and France for many many years. Reliable. We have done short tours with all. Good point that the commentary will be repeated in many languages. I have recently looked at Cityrama website (nostalgia); they do some mulitple day tours to MSM and other sights, so you dont need to go there and back in one day

Yes, there are many companies who do this! I booked mine through www.linkparis.com. They do a really great job! Just look on right hand side of the home page under Day Trips from Paris.

You asked about organized tours, but you can easily do this on your own - and save a good deal of money. Take a train from Paris to either Rennes or Dol de Bretagne and a bus operated by SNCF (French National Rail) from there directly to Mont St-Michel. You can arrive at Mont St-Michel as early as 11:00 and depart as late as 17:15. If you want more information, just ask.

I just did Paris to Mont St. Michel. My Father-in-Law originally wanted to go to Brittany to get the famous Cancale oysters, so I booked us for two nights in the town of St. Malo. Once they looked at a map and realized how close we were to Mont St. Michel it was on the list but I had to figure out how to make it happen. You could do one loooooong day but it would make more sense to stay overnight, either at one of the places IN Mont St Michel (super expensive I'd imagine) or in a nearby town. A bus goes from St. Malo to Mont St. Michel in about an hour and a half, with one connection in a very charming rural town that I forget the name of. One itinerary that would work would be from Paris to St. Malo very early, storing your luggage in a locker at the St. Malo train station, then catching the morning bus to Mont St. Michel. The afternoon bus back gets you into St. Malo around 5pm, leaving you to hop a taxi or bus to the walled city, check into a hotel, and grab dinner before bed.

We used Gray Line tours and they are wonderful. It was a long, long bus ride and was disappointing. The photos are better than the actual place. We thought it would be so wonderful, but it wasn't worth the time, price or effort to climb the ramps in the heat of June. We have always been extremely happy with Gray Line tours, in London, Paris, Rome, Bruge, Boston, New York, Canada, Australia, etc.
