We are arriving midday into Lyon airport and wondered how long a drive to get us to anywhere in the Dordogne area--we don't want to rush, but it looked as though anywhere on the way wasn't all that great and would rather just get there. Any recommendations for places for on the way?
thank you!
I think you have three opportunities.
You could head boldly into the interior of France and find your own taste of La France Profonde--your own backdoor. At least for an overnight on your way to the Dordogne.
You could spend a whole day on the road, including some very pretty countryside.
Or you could shift your flight into Toulouse, Castres, Brive, Bergereac, Rodez, Lomoges, or Bordeaux and save yourself a long drive.
I would ck www.accorhotels.com they have a range of hotels with an along the route inquiry. why not spend at least 2 night in Provence?
Actually, you would be driving across a spectacularly beautiful part of France.
At best, you're looking at a five hour drive if you stick as best as you can to the Autoroute. Pardon my asking, but if you want to go to the Dordogne, why are you flying to the other side of the country?
thank you for your comments and advice. We decided to enjoy Lyon for an evening, and then venture out towards the Dordogne area. I'm sure it will all be wonderful!
