Hello we are arriving in luxembourg on april 21 and stay for 2 days then onward to cologneApril 23) for another two days. Just want to find out if we can still visit Trier before we go to Amsterdam for our river cruise. And what is the cheapest way to do this by train or bus? pls help thnak you

The cheapest way is almost surely to go to Trier on the way to Cologne, not after. Start on Rick's site, choose Railpasses (no, I'm not telling you to get one), then click on Plan Your Trip and Downloadable maps. Look at Germany first, then Netherlands. You will see that Lux-Trier-Cologne-Amsterdam is the fastest and the most direct, thus the cheapest. However, as you use Rick's links to Deutsche Bahn, you will find that it is far too late to get the cheapest point-to-point rail tickets. I imagine the bus is cheaper, if slower and less pleasant. I can't help with that.
