From Italy to Spain

I am planning my 2 weeks in Italy in Sept/Oct this year. Afterwards, I would like to see the coast of France and Barcelona Spain. Anyone who has taken the train ride from Italy to Spain could please share any info. Would like to get off the train in some stops along the way. Any info is appreciated.

No disrespect intended and before I might spend time on this - you give no indication over what period this journey will be and where you will fly home from. Do you recognise that every break of journey will be a single journey and are you happy with that expenditure?

I am in the planning stages right now. So after I receive all the information on questions I have, then I will make decisions on exact dates etc. I want to travel in the late month of Sept. and early Oct. I might fly into Venice and work my way from there to Genoa, Cinque Terra, Florence, Sienna, Rome, Amalphi coast etc etc. Then traveling to Spain, and fly home from there. I am open to all suggestions. I was also thinking maybe of flying into Barcelona, spending several days there, then taking the train over to Italy, and fly back home from Rome. Thank you for responding, I appreciate any traveling tips etc. Janea

I was solely referring to your subject 'From Italy to Spain' and content in your original post, which appeared to be elaboration. You have not answered my queries and therefore how can I assist? If you now want the contents of many, many pages of travel guide knowledge I can only suggest you refer to them.
Good luck.

One thought about Barcelona in the 3rd week of September. The La Merce festival in Barcelona is scheduled for Sept 20 - Sept 25 this year. The La Merce festival is Barcelona's largest. Constant parades, music and the wonderful Gigants (Giants). All of this takes place in the La Rambla area. We were fortunate to be there during the 4 days of the festival last year. Non-stop celebration. What a treat. We stayed at the Hotel 1898 (a bit pricey but right in the middle of everything). You can also check out Hosteria Grau or Hostal Campi. Both are near La Rambla and both are quite reasonable. If not, and you are in Rome and wanting to travel to Barcelona, its a really long, long and expensive train trip. Two other alternatives is 1) Fly from Rome-FCO to Barcelona-BCN on www.vueling.com. This is a great Spanish budget airlines. Book early for the lowest fares. Be sure to carefully read and understand the travel condition - especially about the weight and size of your luggage, booking and check-in time. 2) There is an overnight ferry between Rome (Civitavecchia) and Barcelona.
