From Beaune to Segrois

am wishing to bike from Beaune to Segrois..would rather pick a bike up in Nuits St. Georges, but I doubt the small town has a bike rental..does anybody know? So, if I go from Beaune to Segrois on bike, does anybody know the terrain? terribly uphill? ? etc?

Thank you all.

If you don't get an answer, google "Nuits St Georges bike rentals" and "Beaune bike rentals." If there are rental stores you will find them.

That was of course my first move...Beaune has some good shops, could not find anything in Nuits. Thinking about biking from Beaune to Nuits, then I'm just a couple miles west of Nuits. I've read online where people have done this. Thank you.

I found a rental shop in Nuits st Georges

Maybe you should also ask the tourist office.

The main road between Nuits St Georges and Beaune is quite flat since you follow the vineyards but this road is quite busy and might be a bit dangerous. It gets quieter on the West side of the road but it is more hilly. You may check with google satellite and relief instead of map. Hope this helps! If you like great wines don't miss the route des grands crus between Nuits st Georges to Dijon to see all the famous names.

Also do not miss Dijon the capital of Burgundy with its fabulous historic centre and gastronomy.

Terrific! Is the main road you are referring to the "orange" road on google maps...and the more hilly road to the west would be the yellow road on google maps named "route de dijon"? Thank you!
Maybe its best to rent a bike in Dijon and head south to Nuits where we are staying, then next day continue South to Beaune for the day...but would rather not have to bike back up to Dijon and I am not certain the bicycle rules on the train (or I'd simply get a train from Beaune to Dijon to end the journey) Thanks Thanks Thanks!

NO! the orange road is the motorway so no way for you to take it with your bikes lol! The yellow one is the main road (route nationale N74) which is dangerous. the route des grands crus starts from Couchey and goes through Fixin, Gevrey Chambertin, Morey st Denis, Vosne Romanée to Nuits St Georges. Check the map carefully or you'll get lost easily!
I heard some trains allow bikes but don't know which ones exactly. This could help http://fubicy.org/spip.php?rubrique54
Voilà!

Wes, if you don't find a bike-rental shop at Nuits St. Georges and you don't want to bike from Beaune, the bike shop in Beaune will deliver to Nuits (for a fee). You should correspond with Florent at Bourgogne Randonees; even if you don't rent from him he will have good advice.

I have only ridden as far north from Beaune as Echevrone. That stretch was hilly, but not extremely so, given the low gearing choices on those bikes. Still the answer might depend on your comfort with hills and also what else you are carrying. (Is the the alternative to your $200 auto rental?)

The ride to Nuits St. Georges from Beaune, btw, is flat, so you might choose to go that way.

A bicycle is a spectacular way to tour Burgundy and can be an alternative to a car. However, you may encounter inclement weather, and it is probably a good idea to have either the right gear, a plan B, or both.

oops, and also you can take a bike on the train that runs from Beaune to Dijon and back (sometimes stopping at Nuits), so there is another option for you.
