I am staying near Gare de l' Est in Paris and flying into De Galle on Air France. Is it a long walk from Air France gates to the Metro line. Should I take a shuttle or take the Metro?
George, You may find it very helpful to have a look at This website, as it provides an excellent description of the airport transport options. The method I normally use is to take the RER "B" into Paris, and then connect to the Metro. Based on your description, I'd probably take the RER "B" to Gare du Nord, and then transfer to Metro Line 4, direction Porte d'Orléans. Gare de L'Est is only one stop, so that's an easy connection. I believe the RER ticket will cover your trip all the way, unless you exit the system. One point to note is that the ticket machines at CDG will ONLY accept "Chip & PIN" credit cards and Euro coins. There is a ticket office there as well, but usually a fairly lengthy queue. Happy travels!
Air France uses mostly Terminal 2 and, of that, mostly 2F it seems. T2 is linear with three nodes. The RER station is in the middle. You can walk the whole length of T2 in fifteen minutes. You can't be ten minutes from the RER station at the airport. I'd just hop off the RER at Nord and walk over to Est instead of messing with the metro. It's only about five hundred yards - - another ten minutes if you crawl.
